About this course:
As climate change, pollution and fossil fuels become of increasing concern, economists continue their search for the policy tools that can help ameliorate the situation and create 'green' recovery plans for their economies. In this course, you will be introduced to the way in which the tools and techniques of economics are used to think about environmental problems and develop policies to solve them. Environmental goods present challenges we don't often encounter in conventional markets; we know the price of a plastic bottle but what is the value of an unpolluted ocean?
Topics covered:
- Key (global) environmental issues;
- The main theoretical approaches in environmental and resource economics;
- Applied environmental policies and the role of cooperation and agreements
Commitment: This course is suitable if you have no prior understanding of economics. We recommend/expect learners to complete it within 4 weeks. Each course comprises 2 units divided into 4 sections, making up 7-8 hours of learning. The course ends with a light-touch assessment of the learning for you to measure your learning.
